Flare System Compliance: Australian Standards Upgrade
SCOPE OF WORK
The Challenge: A biomass pyrolysis system required urgent modifications to meet Australian safety standards for emergency shutdowns. The existing gas train lacked sufficient fail-safes and didn’t meet the required closure-speed benchmarks for hazardous area operations.
The Solution: I re-engineered the gas handling system to ensure rapid, high-integrity isolation during a shutdown event. Key upgrades included:
- Hardware Integration: Installing dual “slam-shut” valves to provide redundancy and meet strict closure-time requirements.
- Piping Redesign: Rerouting gas lines to optimize flow and improve the physical footprint of the safety train.
- Operational Logic: Developing a revised shutdown procedure that aligned the physical hardware with safe operational protocols.
The Result: The system was brought into full compliance with Australian safety codes, moving the pyrolysis factilty from high-risk to a site-ready industrial asset.
