Concept Design & Technical Validation for a Multi-Stage Bio-Refinery
SCOPE OF WORK
GALLERY
The Problem: The client had identified a significant market opportunity to convert biomass waste into a diversified product stream, including bio-oil for sustainable fertilizers and high-grade activated carbon. As part of their early-stage commercialization, they required an independent technical audit to formalize their process and prepare for large-scale partnership discussions.
The Solution: We worked closely with the client’s leadership team to translate their high-level vision into a rigorous engineering framework. This partnership focused on:
-
Technical Validation: Providing an expert “second-eye” review of laboratory test results, ensuring that the chemical data supported the proposed commercial yields.
-
Process Architecture: Developing a suite of Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) that demonstrated the seamless integration of torrefaction, pyrolysis, and activation stages.
-
Operational Knowledge Share: Collaborating on the fundamental thermodynamics of the torrefiaction, pyrolysis, and activation processes, ensuring all stakeholders were aligned on the technical requirements for the upcoming pilot phase.
-
Strategic Advisory: Offering objective analysis on various technology pathways and equipment configurations to ensure the project remained vendor-neutral and optimised for efficiency.
Result: By combining the client’s industry vision with specialized process engineering, we successfully matured the project from a conceptual stage to a technically defined roadmap. The resulting documentation provided a professional foundation for the client to engage with major feedstock producers in Malaysia and Australia, significantly enhancing the project’s credibility for future investment and site-selection phases.
